Photography and Videography Drones

Drone photography enables a pilot to capture a photo from a bird's eye view without the need for a crane or helicopter. Traditionally a fixed-wing aircraft would have been needed to take aerial photos. These aircrafts are costly and have a larger turning circle making it harder to capture photos. Drones are a lot more maneuverable and do not require a runway for takeoff as they can be launched vertically.

Drone videography enables a pilot to capture video from above an area for either filming a location, such as a real estate shoot, or video surveillance for security purposes. The drone can also fly close to the action without getting in the way of the shoot. In the case of surveillance, a drone may not even be noticed as it can be quite high up and may not be heard.

Image quality is the most important. Just like a handheld camera, sensors affect the image quality of a drone. A 1-inch sensor is ideal for the average consumer. Professional photographers will lean towards a 4/3-inch CMOS sensor. A large sensor makes it easier to capture high-quality footage in low light.

The more sensors that a drone has the less likely it is going to crash into an object. If a drone senses that it is too close to an object, it will stop and alert the pilot of a possible collision. Drones may come standard with multiple sensors, giving the drone an almost 360-degree scan area. Cheaper drones that have fewer sensors must be flown with caution, as the drone will not be able to alert the pilot as to a possible obstruction and may end up crashing.

Drones are fitted with video resolutions that offer HD footage to 8k. A drone fitted with a 1080p HD camera is ideal for taking photos for Facebook or Instagram. If you are looking for professional cinematic shoots, then 4k & 8k is the way to go.

Drones are continuously hovering and making minute adjustments to remain. A fixed gimble would cause photos or video to be blurry and out of focus. A 3-axis gimbal floats separately to the drone allowing the drone to move whilst keeping the camera perfectly stable.
