Delivery Drones

Drone delivery will allow companies to complete their “30 minutes or less” delivery promise known as the golden mile. Since drones navigate their delivery route by air, traffic jams or roadblocks are no longer a factor in delivery time. Using drones to deliver, rather than delivery trucks, is much more environmentally friendly. Roadway congestion could be reduced as fewer delivery vehicles are used. This also reduces a company’s fuel cost and greenhouse gas emissions.

Drones are currently limited to how much weight they can carry. Most delivery drones can deliver up to 5lbs in 30 minutes or less. A collision avoidance system has to be in place to work with airspace control regulations. The range and flight time of the drone may be limited by the battery capabilities. Weather, wildlife, and vandalism are unforeseen circumstances that can affect a drone in flight.

Octocopter
For short-distance deliveries, an octocopter could be used as they are very stable. In the event
of a rotor loss, the Octocopter will not completely fail. They generally are limited by flight time
and load capacity.
VTOL
A VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) offers precision flight and landing capabilities. The VTOL
unit is a combination of a fixed-wing aircraft and a multi-copter. You can take off like a drone
vertically, but can then fly like an aircraft between locations. Larger distances can be covered at
greater speeds. If the push motor were to fail, the aircraft could still be flown and landed like a
traditional drone.
