Drones Being Used to Airlift Dogs Stranded by the Volcano in La Palma

Lava from a volcano on the island of  La Palma, Spain, has left several dogs stranded. Aerocamaras has obtained permits to try a unique rescue using drones to rescue the dogs. They plan on having a drone drop a net on each dog, and then whisk it to safety. A cargo drone with capabilities to carry 50 pounds per flight will be used. The complex rescue will require the dogs to be carried about 1,476 feet over lava.

Walgreens Announces Drone Delivery Option

Walgreens and drone delivery company Wing announced Wednesday plans to bring store-to-door delivery to Dallas-Fort Worth, expanding into densely populated metropolitan areas in the United States. The duo envisions deliveries of small packages will be made within 10 minutes or less using drone technology. "We’ll start with over-the-counter healthcare items, medicines. We’ll do snacks and food. One thing that we’re really excited about, and we hope we’ll be able to do, the COVID test kits," Jacob Demmitt, U.S. Marketing and Communications for Wing said. "From the time you press order until there’s a package sitting at your house, it’s about 10 minutes. Our fastest delivery time ever was two minutes and 47 seconds."

A Step Closer to Flying Cars?

A startup from Israel has unveiled its first 'easy-to-operate' two seater flying car, that it hopes will be used to shuttle passengers through city skies as early as 2024. The all electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft will primarily be sold in the US, where the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has worked with developers AIR for two years on preparing licensing and regulations to make it legal and safe. AIR executives say they hope to have approval by the end of 2023 for their AIR ONE vehicle, that is expected to cost 'about the same as a high end road car'.

BRINC Receives $25 Million in Series A Funding

BRINC, an emerging leader in the public safety drone market, has announced a $25 million Series A funding round. BRINC’s announcement of the funding round provides some insight into future plans. “Looking ahead, BRINC is building a system designed to respond to emergencies in seconds and succeed the police helicopter. This system would create a distributed network of drones in multiple locations to aid first responders when lives are at risk. In addition, BRINC is developing drones for industrial use cases that are dangerous for people.”

Honda Announces Plans to Build Electric VTOLs and Telepresence Robots

Honda is switching gears from traditional cars and trucks, to Avatar-style remote telepresence robots and electric Vtols for inter- and intracity commutes before turning its ambitions to building a fuel-cell driven power generation system for the lunar surface. Honda envisions a future where people are unencumbered by space and time, where telepresence robots have visual and tactile acuity rivalling that of humans. The Avatar Robot is planned to be put into practical use in the 2030s and will conduct technology demonstration testing by the end of Q1, 2024.

Orlando Florida is looking to become a national leader in air mobility options, including emerging electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing technologies and "vertiports for air taxis". Orlando Mayjor Buddy Dyer stated "As transportation options continue to evolve over time, the availability and accessibility of incorporating air taxis into a community’s transportation network greatly increases. As a future-ready city, the City of Orlando wants to be prepared to embrace these new transportation amenities that can enhance our regional connectivity and serve as a major backbone of our future transportation network.”. To move efforts forward, Orlando has partnered with VHB to create a Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Transportation Plan.

New eVTOL "Seeker" Claims to be Better Than a Helicopter

Terrafugia has scaled down and launched a smaller eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) called the Seeker. With a range of more than three hours of flight on a single charge, the Commaris Seeker can reach a top speed of over 60 mph, and has a carrying capacity of up to 10 pounds. The aircraft can travel a distance of 170 miles, comparable to what a helicopter is capable of. Unlike a Helicopter, the Seeker operates much quiter and is virtually silent above 500ft.

Ondas Acquires American Robotics to Define the Value of Drones Operating at Scale

Ondas Holdings Inc. has completed the acquisition of American Robotics, Inc. The acquisition plans to prove what kind of technology drones can enable at scale. Reese Mozer, CEO, stated “Ultimately, we want to build a drone program is about more than just the drone itself, Because we understand what the scope of these complete solutions look like, and how they can define and enable connectivity on every level, we know what it means to scale. DJI's Mavic 3 Pro Release

Although anticipated in Q4 for this year, DJI's Mavic 3 Pro has been delayed until January 2022. Far and few between photo leaks of the product had pointed to signs of a delay in design for the long awaited drone. Firefighters use DJI drones and software to provide crucial disaster relief

DJI Drone Technology with aerial mapping GINA software was deployed to assist in a fire covering 10 square miles in Czech Republic. Col. David Jirous, head of KOPIS, stated: “Thanks to the experience gained from mapping areas damaged by tornadoes, we want to apply this knowledge to the project we are currently working on, which focuses on automatic mapping of the marked area in GIS or in GINA Tablet. A unique feature of this project will be the time it takes for the digital map to get to first responders in the field. We would like to distribute the data from the drone to GINA apps in near real time using a fast mobile connection such as 5G and LTE networks, or on a local network.”.

Germany’s Lilium strikes $1 billion eTVOL deal with Brazil’s Azul airline

German electric take-off and landing (eTVOL) craft manufacturer Lilium has announced an expansion of its global advanced air mobility activities (AAM) to Brazil through a partnership with local airline Azul. The agreement calls for Azul to buy and operate Lilium eTVOL planes in a deal valued at $1 billion.
